A map is valuable for geographic context, but it cannot be the only way to browse a castle index. Castle Atlas’s native release build includes a searchable list alternative.
Provide a non-map path
Every discovery task should be possible through a structured list with names, places, types, and clear actions.
- Keyboard and screen-reader reachable.
- No gesture-only result.
- Meaningful empty and loading states.
Describe map meaning
Color, cluster size, and selection state need text equivalents. A marker alone does not communicate source depth.
- Announce result counts.
- Label selected records.
- Explain discovery versus rich profile.
Verify real-world access
Digital accessibility does not prove physical access. Use the current operator for routes, surfaces, lifts, seating, and assistance.
- Date the access source.
- Avoid vague accessible labels.
- Keep contact details current.
